As an executive MBA student, you are not just attending a business school, you are also continuing to work within the business field at the same time. One of the most important aspects of being an EMBA student is the opportunity to network and expand your business contacts. Contacts in the business world are a big part of being an MBA student.

Ways to Network #1: Identify Who You Want to Network With

As an executive MBA student, you are both working and going to school at the same time. One of the most important things you can do while getting your MBA is to work to build your network. With work and school, you only have so much time, so you need to identify and determine who you want to network with. You need to know what type of business contacts you are trying to build, so you know what networking opportunities you should pursue.

Ways to Network #2: Attend Conferences in Your Field

Second, when you are attending graduate school, you will get access to attend business and academic conferences. Generally, all you have to do is find out about conferences, contact them, and let them know you are graduate student and that you want to attend their conference. By attending conferences in your field and in related fields, you are going to learn valuable new information and build your business network as well.

Ways to Network #3: Set Up Face-to-Face Meetings

Next, you are going to want to set-up face-to-face meetings to build your network. For example, if you meet someone at a networking event or a conference, you can then follow up and ask to set-up a face-to-face meeting so you can really develop that person into a long-term contact.

You can also set-up face-to-face meetings with individuals that you don't know yet. You can reach out to organizations and businesses that you are interested in learning more about or are interesting in working with in the future and see if you can get a meeting. Many organizations and businesses are willing to conduct informational interviews with graduate students.

When it comes to networking as an executive MBA student, you need to identify who you want to network with. You need to sign-up and attend conferences and set-up face-to-face meetings. Once you meet people, be sure to follow up with them. It takes multiple contacts for someone to become part of your network.
